More mediocre meals besides these same five!
Helmet-wearing with confidence!
Making Friends: Shhhhhhhhh (no really, stop talking)
Hebrew: You can say it, but what does it mean?
Some things are not literal!
Touch your toes?
Sharing nachos well with others!
Communication: Share your thoughts from the beginning instead of starting at random half-way points and then being annoyed when no one can understand you!
Posture: If your butt is off the couch and only your head is resting on the pillow, you are not, in fact, sitting.
Workshop I will be leading:
Actress and author Amy Wilson and I will co-facilitate a “From Page To Stage” workshop at BlogHer’11 in San Diego! Amy will share her experience with the differences in writing as an author for her book, and as a performer for her touring one-woman show. I will share a few tips on tweaking your writing for reading aloud from my experience with Listen To Your Mother, and we will discuss some general tips for performing in front of an audience. Participants are invited to workshop a post, and we intend for this to be an experiential, rather than just talking workshop.
Also, If you haven’t read Amy’s book “When Did I Get Like This” you’re in luck. It just came out in paperback, which gives you all the more reason to go purchase it immediately. Amy’s book is filled with her humor, wisdom, and her very impressive vocabulary—impressive because you can tell she actually uses those words in real life AND knows what they mean! Confession: I’m a wee tired of mommy books and I still loved Amy’s funny, smart book. So there.
Attending “From Page To Stage” makes a perfect primer for the LTYM Open Mic Salon happening later in the evening. More details soon…
And finally:
My last column just went up at Aiming Low [In which I give up sugar and toss a tiny man into the air in celebration]. Huge thanks to Aiming Low parole officer Anissa and the team for helping me aim a little lower, and especially for understanding that the huge squash-eating LTYM baby demands my spoon only go into her mouth for the time being.
Happy Summer!
Y’all are going to be fantastic!
Whoo hoo! I cannot wait for August. Thank you for plugging my book, complete with confessional. This will be a fun workshop, by Jove!
Now I’m mad as hell that I sold my BlogHer ticket. Oh to miss you guys!! So sad. But heads up, don’t take the same flight as Amy to San Diego. She and I were on a flight together – it was like the most terrifying ride at Great Adventure but you couldn’t get off.
Hey looks like we will be in SD at the same time. Maybe my loud, obnoxious, drooling children can sit by you on the plane!
I cannot wait. SQUEEEE!
I am so sad to miss- I can’t wait to hear all about it!
Steph
Yay! How exciting!
Also? I can read Hebrew fluently but have NO idea what any of it means. Not a single clue.
I’m tossing a tiny man in the air just for you, girl. A figurative tiny man, in a green velvet blazer and a red stocking cap.
Congratulations! And if you use all the tips I gave you to give your first readers of LTYM last year? I WANT 2 MILLION DOLLARS FOR THAT.
Any time you need someone to translate something from Hebrew to English let me know and I will gladly do so.
But I won’t promise not to “adjust” the translation a little bit. 😉
Well, I don’t think you want that LTYM spoon to go anywhere but her mouth ever! 😉
P.S. Good luck with the workshop you ARE leading, cuz that sounds like it will be really useful and fun. Wish I was going!
You are a busy, busy person! So, I think I could really benefit from the nacho workshop. Might you reconsider?
Cheers,
Casey
LOVE the workshop list!
I’m amazed by people who wear helmets with confidence.
I will definitely attend your shebang. I may need a helmet in order to get through that open mic event.
And, yes, I’m also terrified of being aboard a plane with Amy. I read that harrowing tale. I would have been wedged between the pilot and copilot, demanding my own Air Traffic Control frequency.
And, now, I MUST GET TO BLOGHER!
You amaze me
Truly. I’m so bummed to miss all your blogher goodness!
Ityped this on phone while feeding Elsie. I could lead aworkshop … oh wait
Error….
This s hard!
Congratulations on ALL of this, Ann! So cool!
You are the hardest-working woman in show business!!
As for sharing nachos, I am not down with that. MINE.
😉 A.
Whoo hoo!! Check you out.
And to think, I knew you when… you could share your nachos. (Actually that’s not true. You were never good at sharing…)
First, congratulations.
Second, promise me that you’ll begin the session with, “GREETINGS, ASSEMBLED. I AM YOUR WORKSHOP LEADER.”
I would love to attend that workshop! It happens to me every day. I can completely relate. Oh wait – which one? You don’t know what I am talking about? Sigh. The one where you start in the middle and then get annoyed because people don’t know what you’re talking about! But congrats on your real workshop! How amazing!!
mazel mazel. cCan we end the session a hora? Ok, have to go eat cake now.
Sorry, feel 80 this morning.
Yay!! Fantastic news all around! Can’t wait!
Too bad San Diego is on other side of the country, that workshop sounds so much fun. The whole idea of reading my work is exciting and petrifing at same time. I would choke.
Dude – did the Empress just commit to BlogHer?
So many things going on in this post. First and foremost, I do wear helmets with confidence.
Second, I am VERY excited about all your BlogHer mojo!
Third, I always appreciates when someone aims even lower than low. Thank you.
Ha! “Touch your toes” WITH a question mark. Hysterical.
You will rock at BlogHer!!!!
xo jj
This awesome, Ann! I SO wish I could be a part of BlogHer. I would love to meet you and attend your workshop. I really, really, really liked the list of your workshops at the beginning, too. Ha! You are awesome.
I’ve had your post open for days… Finally, a comment!
I can’t wait to attend your workshop! Will you be able to help me lose my stagefright??
I am so delighted to be attending your workshop that I believe I just peed a little.
Cool! Congratulations. I do wish you were leading the 5 mediocre meals one, however.
Can’t wait to see you in San Diego!
“Communication: Share your thoughts from the beginning instead of starting at random half-way points and then being annoyed when no one can understand you!” I do this all the time.
Wish I could be there. You’re going to be fantastic!
I’d love to go to the workshop you ARE facilitating. Alas, crowds scare the crap out of me. That one about Communication? My mom could do that without any prep time.
Yay!!! Also, have you noticed all the fireworks this year? 😉 Love you.
