GLOW

It’s seven a.m. Three Buck Chuck and orange juice co-mingle, excitedly awaiting the fruit salad that will make them Sangria.

“Excitedly Awaiting?” Need to watch those adverbs.

For today is GLOW day! Are you familiar with the Gorgeous Ladies of Wisconsin? Not the wrestlers per say, but one GLOW can do The Worm.

GLOWs gather yearly at this time–no children, no menfolk–often on a water vehicle in the famous Dells of Wisconsin. One year, tubes were tied for floating on the Wisconsin River—including a designated “cooler” tube. While no one’s fertility was negatively affected in the process, one full day of lake-butt encouraged the recent upgrade to pontoon. This year there is rumor of an ON BOARD GRILL.

    Prepare your brat.

Courtesy of my father’s recent purging of “crap I should really have in my own basement now,” today the Lido Deck will feature Elle Magazines circa 1988. In fact, Kathie Lee Gifford is looking positively shower-fresh in her two-page Jean Nate ad as I type this.

While the annual GLOW gathering began five years ago, the friendships date back twenty years. So, I’m also bringing a yearbook or two from the box marked 1988. I could share quotes from the now-famous, or never-famous, or those that cast me in a favorable light. Instead I will share these two heartwarming entries:

“Hay Ann I hope To see you at Some parties”

“Anne—God, where do I even start? I can’t believe the changes that have occurred in the last year. There is no way I could write them all down. Last year at this time”

My still-good friend Ben referenced our shared love of Three’s Company, which says nothing for my maturation in the past 16 years. It’s one thing that I enjoyed their rendez-vous in 1992, but the fact that I’ve brought it to the level writing my own episodes speaks volumes.

Must go slice fruit. Musn’t forget my beer cozy. Bon Voyage!
