Today I feel like an Olympian, on her way to a cable-network home redesign reveal. I won an award AND it matches my uniform–my new (still in process) blog redesign by Sarah Fite!!
In January I received a mysterious email notifying me I’d won a Best of Madison medal. The email did not articulate what or how I placed in this contest–I did not even know I was nominated (and therefore spared you all pleas for votes)–but I assumed the prize regarded LTYM. I had recently written my blogging midlife crisis post, so when I found out Madison folks had singled out Ann’s Rants for a bronze medal, I felt downright delighted.
Husband likes to joke that every single restaurant in Madison boasts a Best of Madison award, and now his very own wife makes the grade!! If only you had tuned in via satellite as Husband narrated Morgan Beck-style my Bode Miller-esque five-year slalom to the finish line:
The day I asked Ann to marry me, was the day the sidelong glances toward Marshall Field’s Bridal windows and the pointed questions “Do you have anything important you’d like to ask me right now as we snarf bagels at the laundromat?” finally ceased. Ann prepared for this day by stealing focus on stage as an overly expressive high school chorus member, by writing in journals instead of working at temp jobs in her 20s, and by exploiting the humor of our children for her own gain. She has shown graceful determination in her blogging life, with a special exception for her first entire year online, when she worked her blog url into conversations with loved ones, strangers, and people even less interested than loved ones and strangers. Her dedication to blogging has proven tireless, regardless of all of the ways I thought she might become a productive income-generating member of society…
Thank you to Madison Magazine, whomever nominated me, and whomever voted for me. My online life brings incredible moments and opportunities, but this one–coming from home and my real-life community–means something altogether different. It’s wonderful to be recognized. Thank you so much for reading.
Congratulations to gold and silver medalists Aviva in Dairyland and Stuck in the Middleton with You!

No rules on what/how you write, just that it describes a place/state of mind you once inhabited. No need to have a blog, either! Post some recollections on Facebook with the hashtag.
Promise me you’ll wear the medal around your neck when you DO IN FACT APPEAR ON ELLEN! (this is just another notch in the “she’s totally getting on Ellen someday” belt.)
Congrats my friend!
I’ll do better than that. I’ll wear EVERY certificate I’ve ever won, including 3rd place Madison Gas and Electric energy-conservation coloring contest from 5th grade.
Do NOT agree with Becky. MUST WEAR MEDAL CONSTANTLY.
SO nice of them to coordinate colors with you! Well deserved! 🙂
