My Dead Strip Mall Valentine and Madison Auditions!

This week I have an essay over at The Isthmus about my 1980s Madison childhood spent waiting at a strip mall before people referred to them as “strip malls.” If one of your regular babysitters was the “wayback” you might like it too.

When I’m not blogging, writing, social networking or serving The Lords of Imig Abby, I facilitate the behemoth live reading series named LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER. Auditions have been announced in nearly every city, and I cannot encourage you strongly enough to resist all your can’ts and doubts– just give it a try. While the project attracts experienced professionals, I created it specifically as a platform for everyday people to share everyday stories of Motherhood from their everyday lives. Madison auditions will be March 3rd at Happy Bambino. For full details and to schedule an appointment, read this post.

    1. Oooh, there was a plaza right down the street from my grandparents’ house…I remember waiting while my grandmother tried on bras…in the changing room with her (lest I be snatched by a kidnapper…yet could stay in an unmanned car)—that was a fun stroll down memory lane, before it took that eye burning turn!

    2. I canNOT beLIEVE this is coming to Northwest Arkansas! I’m so excited! If I weren’t so public speaking impaired I’d enter. I’m going to make all my friends audition.

    3. I cannot audition for LTYM but oh how I want to.

      So.

(Please come back to LA soon. Pretty please?)

p.s. I’m still not mature enough for Gold Medal Ribbon.

    4. Hey, I wandered over from your comment on The Bloggess’s page. I wanted you to know that I’m a devout Catholic, and that not only did I find your “blood of Christ” comment very funny (it actually is very delicious at my Parish, anyway. I don’t know whether they use good wine, or whether the taste is improved by transubstantiation), but that also Peggy doesn’t represent us.

Lots of Christians have a great sense of humor, we just are loath to admit we’re Christians because we don’t want people to think we’re lame, un-funny, homophobic assholes. Like Peggy.

Sorry, just wanted you to know that 🙂
